Yesterday I showed you my last Christmas present. Now it’s time to show you what I made for me to wear at Christmas. It’s a pretty dress which I saw in the November Burda issue. You can find the pattern as a single pattern here (in German) and here (in English).
It was love at first sight, I wanted to turn this dress immediately into my Christmas dress. Luckily I found the perfect fabric at the “Holländischer Soffmarkt“. It is a warm jersey knit fabric in dark grey with black velvet flowers. I choose this fabric because it is not too festive and I can wear this dress not only at Christmas but it’s also suitable for work.
It was very tricky to sew this dress. There are a lot of edges to sew what isn’t easy with an elastic fabric. Especially the bust darts in the princess seams and the neckline where the middle back piece is coming to the front. Here you can see what I mean:
While sewing I hoped I could avoid a zipper as the fabric is elastic. But in the end I used a invisible zipper, because the neckline was to tight. Plus it is a close fitted dress and it wasn’t my intention to burst the seams the first time putting it on.
As you can see in the top picture I just sewed a rolled hem with my serger. Because of the 8 godets I had a full circle hemline and I didn’t want to sew a normal hem with the elastic and thick fabric.
Besides the tricky princess seams and the neckline the dress was sewed in just one day. I didn’t line the dress cause I have a matching undergarment to wear with it. Finally some pictures of my finished Christmas dress:
If you liked my Christmas dress or have a question just leave a comment. At this point all that remains for me is wishing you a very happy Christmas.
